Heart of Gold! OIAMFS student wins M & G Stone Competition

In the lead up to Mothers Day, our friends at M & G Stone Ltd, Keighley, asked if the young people at One In A Million Free School and One In A Million Community would be interested in entering a district wide Art competition they were running. The winning design would get transferred onto a ‘heart-shaped’ piece of Yorkshire stone to take home for a loved one.

We are delighted to announce that the winning entry was Zahra, Year 7c, of One In A Million Free School was the winner! Congratulations Zahra, we are very proud of you.

One In A Million Community and Free School produced 75 out of 300 overall entries. Our young people had a lot of fun taking part in the competition. Well done to everyone who produced some wonderful designs!

Thank you to Garry Thomas Hodgkinson from M & G Stone Ltd for visiting One In A Million today and presenting the winning carved stone to Zahra. Garry was truly overwhelmed by his visit to our school and said, “I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to One In A Million Free School to present the winning stone to Zahara and present her with a £100 Next voucher. Her fantastic design caught the judges eye.

During my tour of the school, the children were amazing. I was blown away when I was met by classroom ambassadors who gave me such a warm welcome. I love the work that One In A Million are doing for local children and young people. I look forward to working with them again. Thank you and well done to everyone who took part in the competition, the standard was outstanding”.

We look forward to M & G Stone Ltd visiting our school again when they will be presenting a masterclass in the art of stone masonry.
