One In A Million supporter Anne Milner, owner of innovative Haworth based florist Rosa Rugosa, inspired her Wharfedale Harriers fell running group to take on the One Million Steps Challenge to support One In A Million.
The challenge would normally be 500 miles in 90 days, but these experienced fell runners nicknamed the Wharfey Angels, heard all about the charity and The One Million Steps Challenge from Annie, so they have raised the bar, setting a goal to run a collective 5,000 miles in 100 days!
Due to Covid restrictions the ladies will be running separately in different locations, but co-ordinating their activities as a group effort using the Strava digital tracking platform.
Organiser Anne Milner (pictured below), who has supported One In A Million for many years by providing inspirational floural creations for our annual Stars Awards gala dinner, Ladies Afternoon tea, Business Lunch, Golf days plus many more said: “The Wharfey Angels want to do something positive together through these sad Covid-19 times, so what better than to help a charity in need like One In A Million! We’ve missed running together so much and this is something we can all be a part of. We are recording our smiles and miles on a Strava group, which means we still feel like we are achieving something together”.
Among the group is former Harriers team-mate Clare Pearson who moved to France three years ago, but remains a member at heart and she will be doing her running 800 miles away.
One of the team captains, Emma Watson, is about 20 weeks pregnant but didn’t want to miss out on the challenge, so will be jogging along at a very careful pace.
The One Million Steps Challenge invites individuals, teams or companies to walk, run, trek, dance or cycle a distance of 500 miles in 90 days to help transform the lives of children and young people living in disadvantaged communities of Bradford.
If you’re visiting the Haworth area be sure to drop into florist Rosa Rugosa and say “hello” to Anne!
