Term 2 Letter from the Mrs Hobbs, Acting Principal, (updates: parent forum, student leadership, attendance and more).
Dear Parent/Carer,
Welcome to Half Term 2! It has been a privilege to welcome students back to school following the Half Term holiday. Once again school’s expectations regarding uniform and equipment are being met by the vast majority of our students and I would like to take this opportunity of thanking you for your continued support.
During this half-term you will receive your child’s first report which will outline their learning and progress so far this academic year. This will be followed by the Year 11 Parents Evening on 24th November, which will focus on the results of the mock exam series and intervention planning.
Student Leadership
Before we broke up a number of our Year 11 students applied for School Leadership roles. Following a rigorous interview process we have appointed a Head and Deputy Head Boy and Girl, Prefects and created a new role of Student Advocate. These students will lead on issues which matter to students within school and the wider world.
We are looking forward to working with our student leaders. I am confident they will be a source of inspiration for the school and wider community and send my congratulations to all our Year 11 student leaders on securing their role.
Values Champion
We will shortly be announcing which students have been selected to be our Values Champions for this half-term. These are the students who have behaved to the very highest standards and embody the school’s core values. They will act as role models for other students and work alongside our Year 11 Student Leaders.
Attendance
A reminder that as a school strives for excellence in all aspects of our school including Attendance.
Attending school on a regular basis is the key to your child achieving their full potential. Students with excellent attendance will be included in our weekly rewards challenges, end of year trips and prize draws throughout the academic year.
Please remember that attendance of 90% is the equivalent of 19 days absence over the school year which will have a detrimental impact on students' learning and progress.
We expect all students to have excellent attendance which is at least 97%. We understand that students fall ill or have medical needs where attending school daily is not as achievable, however parents/carers must call school on the morning of any absence.
If you require any support with your child’s attendance please contact their Head of Year.
Parent Forum
This will take place on Thursday 1st December 2022 and will focus on E-Safety. All parents/carers are invited to attend. There will be a presentation from our Deputy Vice Principal and an opportunity to ask questions. We will send further details of the meeting at the end of November.
Yours faithfully,
Jane Hobbs
