Abdullah Ijaz Awarded Sixth Form Bursary At Woodhouse Grove School!
20th Aug 2019. We are delighted to announce that One In A Million Free School leavers, Abdullah Ijaz and Samia Khatun, have been awarded full Sixth Form bursary places at the prestigious Woodhouse Grove School starting this September 2019!
On the day that GCSE results have been published, we would also like to congratulate both students on their academic achievements. Abdullah’s achievements included a double Grade 9 in Science, placing him within the top 4% of all students nationally. Samia achieved a fantastic set of results which averaged over 3 ½ grades higher (per subject) than her target grades.
Upon receiving news that he had been awarded a sixth form bursary Abdullah graciously said, “From a young age, I have always shown an interest and aptitude to my studies and value the importance of the gift of education. Looking ahead, upon successfully completing my GCSEs, I want to continue my education by studying for A-levels in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Further Maths. Woodhouse Grove School offers these qualifications and with this exciting opportunity, I hope to do the school proud by studying Medicine. My ambition since early childhood is to become a doctor, specialising in Cardiology. This scholarship is a ‘one in a million’ opportunity. Thank you for selecting me. This bursary gives me a chance to realise my dream and to make my parents proud of their son’s achievement. I want to become an inspiration to other students. I believe the school has the resources and the infrastructure to give a unique learning experience. One which I want to be strongly linked to”.
When reflected on his time at One In A Million Free School, Abdullah remarked, “My favourite part has been the fact that every individual is ‘unique and valued’ here in our school. I have really enjoyed PE lessons along with the company of my friends I am have made at the school. Maths and Science have been my favourite subjects at One In A Million Free School, as I have a strong base in them. I want to honour my previous school, ‘The Educators Bara Dari Campus Gujrat’. If I am able to achieve this scholarship, a huge credit goes to both my schools and honourable teachers”.
When asked what advise would he give to a new Yr7 student attending our school this academic year, Abdullah responded by saying, “I strongly recommend them to come here as the name suggests it’s very ‘unique’ and ‘different’. The best aspect of this school is that it has almost a family type structure where teachers have the passion, intensity, desire and caring nature for the students. They want to see all students progress and aspire themselves to exciting and memorable journey. One In A Million Free School will be a fantastic next step for them to succeed in their education”.
The partnership between One In A Million Free School and Woodhouse Grove has blossomed with lots of collaborative initiatives already taking place aside of the bursaries. Woodhouse Grove set up its own charitable foundation to support and fund bursaries for students, from within the Bradford and West Yorkshire district, whose parents may not otherwise be able to afford the fees.
Abdullah and Samia will join former One In A Million Free School students Finn Payton and Raihan Younis who were awarded bursaries last year. Both students have since excelled in their studies!
Wayne Jacobs, OIAMFS Academy Trust Member and Co-Founder said, “Congratulations Abdullah and Samia. We wish you every success in your studies at your new school. Embrace every moment and every opportunity provided to you. We know you will continue to flourish. We would also like to give a big thank you to the governing board and principal at Woodhouse Grove for their continued support and partnership with One In A Million Charity, and One In A Million Free School”.
