The Lord Mayor of Bradford visits our school to discuss ‘environmental sustainability’ with students.
On Monday 6th of February 2023, the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Martin Love, visited One In A Million Free School.
He was met by the Head Boy and Head Girl, along with Wayne Jacobs, Co-founder/ CEO of One In A Million and Mark Hughes, OIAMFS Member/Governor.
The Lord Mayor met with our Year 11 student leaders to discuss the schools plans to become more environmentally sustainable. Much of the discussion focused climate change and the city councils plans to make Bradford greener.
The Lord Mayor also met with the schools' student council. Students outlined roles in school and how they act to make sure pupil voice is heard and acted upon. Students commented that they had 'enjoyed meeting the Lord Mayor and finding out abut how local government worked'.
Mrs Hobbs Acting Principal said, “It was an honour to welcome the Lord Mayor of Bradford to One In A Million Free School and to see him encourage our students to use their voice to bring about positive change in society”.
Yr11 student: “It was really inspiring to meet the Lord Mayor and to understand his roles, responsibilities and achievements. We talked about how we can improve our society and issues that affect us daily. The Lord Mayor said that he was passionate about his role and wanted to change things for the better”.
Yr8 student: “I really enjoyed talking to the Lord Mayor about our Student Council. He was really interested in our roles and also gave us some helpful ideas on how to be a good councillor”.
