Yorkshire Cricket Foundation Help Broaden The Horizon For Year 11 Students
14th Feb 2020. This week a group of year 11 students from One In A Million Free School were invited by the Yorkshire Cricket College to visit the home of Yorkshire Cricket at the Headingley Stadium, Leeds.
This was made possible through our partnership with the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and the Emerald Group.
On arrival the students were given a presentation about the college course that the Foundation runs. This course is an amazing opportunity for students to gain A-Level standard qualifications and to also work with cricket professionals and trainers at the highest level.
The second year of the course includes a trip to South Africa where the college students get to play cricket against local teams and also experience the beautiful country. On completion of the course, students then have the qualifications to move on to University and work.
After the course presentation, the students were given a tour of the stadium. This included getting to the pitch-side and also seeing the team dressing rooms. This was a fantastic experience for our students.
It gave them a great motivation for what they should be aiming towards in the lead up to their GCSE’s and for life beyond their secondary school education.
Mark Hughes, Chair of Governors said, “One In A Million Free School would like to say a big thank you to colleagues at Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and the Emerald Group for broadening the horizon for our students. You have given them a fantastic life enriching experience”.
