Our history (click here)
One In A Million began as a charity and was founded in 2005. The charity delivered its first community programme in May 2006 and continues to deliver community programmes across the Bradford district. During this journey, One In A Million Academy Trust was formed (in 2012), and a year later, in September 2013, One In A Million Free School was opened as a separate legal entity with its own governance arrangements. Today, the school plays a vibrant role in removing the barriers to education through our values-centred, inclusive approach, in order to facilitate the very best outcomes and opportunities for all students.
The Board of Governors upholds a strong focus on 3 core strategic functions (click here)
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding the executive leader/s to account for the educational performance of the school and its students, and the performance management of staff; and
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
Effective governance is based on six key features (click here)
- Strategic leadership that sets and champions vision, ethos and strategy.
- Accountability that drives up educational standards and financial performance.
- People with the right skills, experience, qualities and capacity.
- Structures that reinforce clearly defined roles and responsibilities.
- Compliance with statutory and contractual requirements.
- Evaluation to monitor and improve the quality and impact of governance.
