WOW: Shining Bright at Emerald

Young people from our Manningham hub enjoyed a fantastic World of Work day with Emerald Group Publishing during May half-term!

We had a jam-packed day, learning about each step of the publishing process and trying our hand at creating a book.

Our task list for the day included:

  • Coming up with an idea for a book
  • Writing a short description of the story
  • Creating a book cover
  • Exploring our target audience
  • Devising a marketing strategy
  • Pitching our book to the sales team

"My favourite part of the day was the Zoom call to India! One of the Emerald staff members spoke to us for 10 mins, and then we prepared our book ideas and pitches for selling our books! It was the best!" - David.

"I loved the challenge of making a sales pitch for our book. Loved getting the Monopoly money notes and the challenge of seeing who would win the task!" - Aria.

"I loved everything about the trip to Emerald today. My group won the sales pitch challenge to the Emerald staff. We got over 51,000 book sales which was amazing! I really loved the whole day!" - Michelle.

We had a wonderfully busy and insightful day exploring the world of publishing. We're so proud of our young people for trying new things, demonstrating teamwork, and jumping into tasks with great passion & creativity.

We would like to say a massive thank you to Vicky, Danielle, and the whole Emerald team for giving up your time to support our World Of Work programme. Your enthusiasm, kindness, and time are making a lasting impression on our young people!

I really enjoyed visiting the Emerald offices in Leeds today! The staff were so friendly and kind to us. I want to work at a place like this when I finish my studies.
